- One callback at most — we don't bombard you
- Your info stays private and is never sold
- Not connected with the U.S. government or Medicare
Three ways to request a new card
- Online at Medicare.gov — sign in to your Medicare account. New card arrives in 30 days. Fastest if you already have an account.
- By phone at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). Have your Medicare number handy if you know it.
- In person at your local Social Security office. Brings the longest wait but works without online access.
For urgent appointments before the new card arrives
If you have a medical appointment before your replacement card arrives:
- Sign in to Medicare.gov to view your Medicare number
- Print a temporary card from your Medicare account
- Most providers can verify your coverage with just your name and date of birth — call your provider's office and ask
Protecting your Medicare number
Your Medicare card number is sensitive. Never give it out by phone to someone who called you. See our Medicare scams guide.
